The Hideout Trail

Ride on the scenic Karst Plateau of Slovenia, discover ancient caves and castles and visit the hideout of Slovenian Robin Hood. With a bit of luck, you might even spot a bear. This ride is unique, as you can choose to extend your stay at each accommodation by an additional night.

Day One:

On arrival at your accommodation in Bač you will be shown your room. It’s a short drive to Šembije (c. 5mins) where the horses are located. Today you will sort out equipment for the ride and talk about horse allocation, meeting your steed for the week. . Tonight you will have dinner in Turist farm Bač.

Day Two:

A short transfer to Šembije at 9:00, where we meet our horses and begin the ride beneath a natural rock wall toward the hilltop village of Tabor. We pause to enjoy the views and hear about the history of the area before riding on to a local pub for lunch.

After lunch, we continue to Palško Disappearing Lake and then ride on to Trnje, where the horses rest overnight. We are transferred back to Bač for a comfortable overnight stay.

Day Three :

After breakfast, we will start our ride toward the hideout of the famous robber Erazem Predjamski and Predjama Castle, a beautiful medieval fortress dramatically built into the mouth of a cave. We will pause nearby to admire the castle while the horses enjoy a well-deserved break. After lunch, we continue our ride toward our overnight destination in Landol.

Day Four:

Straight after breakfast we will head out on a ride into the woods and enjoy the peace in this vast forest. We will have lunch on the way and when we arrive in our overnight destination in Suhorje you will have a chance to go and enjoy the company of beautiful Appaloosa Horses in the pasture or go and cool off in a nearby river.

Day Five:

This morning, you have another long, great ride through an area called Brkini, famous for its fruit trees and varied terrain with a lot of ups and downs. Along the way, you’ll see Prem Castle in the distance, set beautifully in the landscape. After lunch at a nearby pub, we’ll cross a river and
start the last part of the journey back to Šembije, where our horses will have a well-deserved break.

Day Six:

After breakfast you are transferred to the airport for your flight home or onwards travel. 

Food and Accomodation

During the trail you will stay at a different location. Three nights at Farm Požar one night in Lippizaner Lodge and one night Farm Volk sleeping in the hay. All of your hosts are true horse lovers and they all have horses at home.

First,second  and the last night at turist farm Požar.  Third night at in the newly built Lipizzaner Lodge in Landol with hosts Hana and Cris who came to live and work here from England. The forth  night at Farm Volk in Suhorje where you can experience sleeping on the hay. They are proud breeders of Appaloosa Horses. If the hay is too much for you we can arrange sleeping in a bed with the prior arrangement. Sleeping in hay is with no heating and we recommend you bring your own sleeping bag.

Breakfast and dinner taken at the place where we will start or finish the day. Breakfast is buffet style with an assortment of breads, home-made jams, cheese, honey, yoghurt and cereals, with tea and coffee. Lunches are taken in different locations and usually in pubs offering delicious homemade food. Most of the meals will include meat but it is possible to arrange vegetarian meals with advance notice. Lunches include delicious local wine.
