The Hideout Trail

Ride on the scenic Karst Plateau of Slovenia, discover ancient caves and castles and visit the hideout of Slovenian Robin Hood. With a bit of luck, you might even spot a bear. This ride is unique, as you can choose to extend your stay at each accommodation by an additional night.

Day One:

On arrival at your accommodation in Bač you will be shown your room. It’s a short drive to Sembije (c. 5mins) where the horses are located. Today you will sort out equipment for the ride and talk about horse allocation, meeting your steed for the week. If there is time then you may set off on a gentle ride up a nearby hill to appreciate the view and see the route you are going to travel over the next few days – this is not at all guaranteed as is only possible with early arrivals, it’s just a possible extra. Tonight you will have dinner in Turist farm Bač.

Day Two:

A short transfer to Šembije at 9,00 where we will get on the  horses we will head out under a natural wall to a village on the top of the hill Tabor.We will take a short break to enjoy the views and the guide will explain what you can see and about the history of this place. Then we will head to a local pub to enjoy lunch. After lunch we will pass by castle Kalc and stop at Paljško Disappearing Lake. From there it is a short ride to our overnight destination in Trnje.

Day Three :

After breakfast, we will start our ride to the hideout of a famous robber Erazem Predjamski and Predjama castle (a beautiful Medieval castle built into the mouth of a cave).We will tie  the horses under the castle and enjoy lunch with a view on the castle. After the lunch you will have some time to go and inspect the castle from the inside. Then we will ride to our overnight destination in Landol.

Day Four:

Straight after breakfast we will head out on a ride into the woods and enjoy the peace in this vast forest. We will have lunch on the way and when we arrive in our overnight destination in Suhorje you will have a chance to go and enjoy the company of beautiful Appaloosa Horses in the pasture or go and cool off in a nearby river.

Day Five:

This morning you have another long, great ride through an area called Brkini, famous for its fruit trees and varied terrain with a lot of ups and downs. On the way you will encounter another castle, the castle of Prem. After lunch at near pub we will start the last part of the journey back to Šembije where our horses will have a well deserved break.

Day Six:

After breakfast you are transferred to the airport for your flight home or onwards travel. 

Food and Accomodation

During the trail you will stay at a different location every day. All of your hosts are true horse lovers and they all have horses at home.

First night and the last night at turist farm Požar. Second night at  B&B Trnje with your hosts Lisa and Zvone who are also international judges for competitions of Icelandic Horses. Third night at in the newly built Lipizzaner Lodge in Landol with hosts Hana and Cris who came to live and work here from England. The forth  night at Farm Volk in Suhorje where you can experience sleeping on the hay. They are proud breeders of Appaloosa Horses. If the hay is too much for you we can arrange sleeping in a bed in the nearby village.

Breakfast and dinner taken at the place where we will start or finish the day. Breakfast is buffet style with an assortment of breads, home-made jams, cheese, honey, yoghurt and cereals, with tea and coffee. Lunches are taken in different locations and usually in pubs offering delicious homemade food. Most of the meals will include meat but it is possible to arrange vegetarian meals with advance notice. Lunches include delicious local wine.

  • The ride whit can be done with a smaller group of 2-3 riders with supelment of 200 eur on a person.

Important information on additional days

The option with additional days is only available for closed groups from 4-7 riders with prior arrangement of the program and is not included in the price of the basic ride. Please contact as abut prices.

If you choose to add additional days of riding to a trip please bare in mind that our horses are entitled to rest every fifth day of all-day riding for a whole day or at least a half day of resting.

Day One:

Ride in ‘bear country’ on the peaks of Milonja, taking lunch in a cabin in the woods and visiting defensive tunnels that were made by the Italian army before WW2. On this ride you can enjoy untouched nature and spectacular views.

Riding time: 6 hours

Day Two:

Today we can go to a church on the top of the hill and listen to the legend of the strongest man that lived just below this hill,. You can even see all of our 17 disappearing lakes and learn all about them. We will enjoy lunch that we have brought with us in our saddle bags whilst sitting on the hilltop and enjoying the views. In the evening you will have a chance to go on a bear watching trip or just relax after a day of riding.

Day Three:

Today is a off day for the horses so you can visit two of the world most famous caves, Škocjan caves or Postojna cave. We can even go to the sea for a swim. You can decide what to do in our beautiful country.

Riding time: no riding

Day Four:

Morning ride around some beautiful places with lunch at the farm. Followed by a trip to the home of Lipizzaner Horses.
